Programming for Big Data Module
The programming for Big Data module will commence on Wednesday 24th January.
The first part of this module will consist of 4 weeks covering the core part of Hadoop and Map-Reduce.
You will need to have access to a Hadoop environment. There are many resources available online and many vendors provide sample Virtual Machines.
There is a basic Hadoop VM available. If you would like to use this VM then you should download the following file in advance of the class. I will show you how to include this in a virtual machine.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a2waynd159uh9ve/Ubuntu64.vdi?dl=0
http://www.comp.dit.ie/btierney/hadoop/
You will also need to have VirtualBox installed and your operating system will need to support virtualisation. Please check this before Wednesday's class.
http://www.comp.dit.ie/btierney/hadoop/
To use this VM you will need approx 20G of download space and any additional space that you may require. I will go through this on Wednesday
Check out my module webpage, where you will find the links to the VM and to other module resources
http://www.comp.dit.ie/btierney/hadoop/
Particularly check out the following before Wednesday's class
- Module Overview
- Module Pre-requisites
- What to do before first class
