Position Description
ESB needs to be expert in identifying the right emerging energy technologies and developing new business models around these to deliver growth for ESB. A dedicated Technology Innovation Unit has been set up to work with the business units across ESB Group to identify new opportunities and to develop, pilot and demonstrate new technologies and associated business models.

The Data Scientist will be a member of this team. He/she will develop a thorough understanding of the core business of utilities and innovatively apply advanced big data analytics to exploit data driven operational efficiencies and new business opportunities. Through a series of business pilots, he/she will work closely with ITS and the various business units across ESB Group to demonstrate the business value of big data analytics and to the ongoing development and operationalising of big data analytics across the group.

Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop an understanding of core utility business processes and underlying data
  • Sourcing and application of relevant 3rd party data as appropriate
  • Applying advanced big data analytics solutions to pilot case studies
  • Collaborate with business lines across ESB group to develop and operationalise analytical solutions for business challenges & opportunities
  • Deliver comprehensive and detailed analytical reports
  • Demonstrate the benefit of analytics and promote its use across ESB Group


Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Previous experience in relevant data analytics/science role
  • Experience in descriptive and prescriptive modelling
  • Good knowledge of Data Analytics, Data Mining and Machine Learning techniques
  • Experience in applying statistical methods for solution development
  • Fluency in at least one of the following languages: R, Python, SAS, SPSS, Matlab
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Desirable
  • Previous experience and understanding of BI technologies or tool sets
  • Experience with visualisation tools
  • Experience with cloud based solutions
  • Previous experience in Lean Product development and Agile software development methodologies
  • Knowledge of open source technologies
  • Strong programming skills
  • Experience in SQL, Hadoop, C++, Javascript
  • Previous experience using Big Data Toolsets and processing large amounts of data Qualifications Relevant 3rd level qualification Location The role will be based in Dublin in our head office Gateway, East Wall Road, Dublin 3.
