Programming for Big Data - Hadoop section

For those attending the Programming for Big Data module the Hadoop part of the course is starting next week.   We will be providing a Virtual Machine with Hadoop installed, a copy of which will be available on the first night to download in the labs.  
 
The VM is large, approx 9MB, so if you want to take a copy of this VM we suggest bringing a 16MB USB key to class.   These are available in Right Click on Camden Street for approx €18.

If you want to use the VM on your laptop or other machine you will need to have VirtualBox installed.

If you want to install Hadoop yourselves, please note that it needs a Linux-based OS - you cannot install it easily on a Windows machine.

All options will be covered at the first lecture.

Change of class times Software Project Management (Day) and Research Methods and Proposal Writing (Day)

From week starting February 17th:
The Software Project Management Day class will move to Tuesday from 2-5 in room KA-1-016

Research Methods and Proposal Writing will move to Wednesday from 2-4 in room KE-2-006

MSC dissertation web-site and Info

All the information related to MSC proposals and dissertations is at the following URL:

The web-site includes deadlines for submission of proposals, supervisor allocation and submissions of soft and hard-bound thesis.
Dates are different for part-time and full-time students.

The next deadline is available only to full-timers and it is:
17 May 2014 for submission of dissertation proposals for those students who want to start their dissertation in June.

Room Change for DATA9911 Data Management

The DATA9911 Data Management MSc lecture that is held every Monday from 3pm to 6pm has been moved to room KE-1-054.

Feedback forms are available for last semester's "Data Mining" and "Problem Solving, Innovation and Communications" modules.

 

The Data Mining survey can be accessed via Webcourses until tomorrow, Friday, 7th Feb.

Web-development and Deployment - timetable has changed

The timetable for the module "Web-development and Deployment" has changed. The new schedule is:

Monday: lecture + tutorial (16-18) (KA-g28)
Tue: Lab (14-16) (KA 3-008)
Thur: Lab (14-16) (KA 1-015)

Computational Techniques in BioInformatics

Unfortunately we don't have adequate student numbers interested in taking the Computational Techniques in Bioinformatics option module this semester, so it will not be running.
