Timetable changes for Semester 2 evening modules

The times of the following Semester 2 modules have changed:

Advanced Databases is now on Tuesday evening at 18:30 in room AU-1-006.

Software Project Management is now on Monday evening at 18:30 in room KE-2-008.

Based on agreed student module choices these changes should not result in module clashes. Web timetables has been updated.   Please contact cspg@dit.ie with any queries.

Last Part-time Problem Solving Class in KE-1-008 (K108)

Hi all,

the last class of the part-time Problem Solving class, for both Arlene and me,

More Research Methods demos

Hi all,

there are further demos for Research Methods are on 18th January, in A324.

The demos are intended to be 5-7 minutes, focusing on your experiment,
so your slides might be as follows, but you can do them however you want:

1. Cover Page
2. In one sentence what your project is about
3. Background reading - just a few seconds of comment on this slide
4. Project Objectives
5. The design of experiment
6. Who is involved in your experiment - people organisations, etc.
7. Specifically what are you going to measure
8. How are you going to measure it

Semester 2 Module Exemptions

As we head into the new semester some students will consider applying for an exemption for one or more modules. This is a good idea if you have already covered all of the content in a module in previous study, or through work experience.

To apply for an exemption you need to do the following:

• Complete the exemption form available at the link on the left-hand-side of the blog.
• On the exemption form outline in detail how your previous study or work experience matches the learning outcomes of the module for which you are applying for an exemption (full learning outcomes for each module are available in the Programme Document linked to at the left of this blog).
• Provide full documentary evidence of your previous study or work experience.
• Return the completed exemption form plus all relevant documentation to cspg@dit.ie.

Applications for exemptions should be submitted before the Friday the 1st of February 2013 and will be considered by the School of Computing Exemptions Committee during the week starting on the 4th of February.
 
Please note:  Modules for which an exemption is granted attract a fee of 50% of the original module fee.

Senior Analyst, Reporting & Analysis

Retail Credit is responsible for defining and implementing credit management and underwriting standards and together with the business, for the development of credit strategy and credit policy in the Retail (Ireland & UK) Division consistent within the Group’s risk appetite.

Reporting & Analysis is a new unit within the Risk Analytics area of Retail Credit.  The team is responsible for producing Credit MI and regulatory reports across a broad range of Retail Credit portfolios.  Our team provide insights to, and understanding of, current and historic credit risk performance.

The team is currently looking for the following candidates:

1-    BSc. undergraduate students in fields of Mathematics, Statistics,  Operations Research and Computing who need to complete an internship programme as part of the undergraduate course

2-    MSc. graduate students in fields of Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research and Computing who will be graduating this year and will be undertaking a summer project as part of their MSc curriculum

3-    BSc. & MSc. Student who have recently completed their course in fields of Mathematics, Statistics , Operation Research and Computing  and looking for their first career opportunity or are already employed and looking for a move to a new organisation

Responsibilities

·       Produce a timely, accurate and comprehensive MI reporting suite, and respond to subsequent actions for further investigation.

·       Respond to regular and ad hoc requests for reports and data from CBI and FSA.

·       Develop new reports in an efficient and flexible production environment.

·       Use their analytical skills to solve business issues using data analysis and report back to relevant stakeholders.

·       Contribute to new MI projects as they arise.

Essential Requirements

·       Strong quantitative background, including SAS programming experience.

·       Fully competent in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

·       Experience working with large datasets from multiple sources.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       Ability to deliver and achieve results within demanding timescales.

·       Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.

·       Ability to analyse, interrogate and interpret data patterns and trends within and across reports.

Desirable Requirements

·       The ability to translate business issues into the appropriate analysis and then communicate the results of that analysis back to the business.

·       Developed presentation skills and ability to work effectively with resources from across the credit, business and risk areas.

·       Credit, finance or risk reporting experience.

·       Experience with SAP Business Explorer and Experian Reporting Studio.
