Data Scientist Position – SPEAR Project

Research Assistant B – Up to 12 Months

The SPEAR project is currently hiring a Data Science / Research Assistant position as part of our Enterprise Ireland funded commercialisation project. This project is expected to run until the end of 2024 with the hope of subsequently developing a spin-out company. 

Job Description

The research assistant will join our dynamic team for a fixed-term period, contributing to the development of innovative solutions in supply chain technology. Responsibilities include:

Utilising cutting-edge data mining and search methods to develop advanced software solutions.

Engaging in projects involving retrieval augmented generation, automated agents, and open-source Large Language Models (LLMs).

Building effective software architectures using open-source Python frameworks and cloud services.


Principal Accountabilities

Report to the Technical Lead of Project Spear.

Contribute to software design and development.

Implement and test new features, adhering to best coding practices.

Ensure the quality and performance of applications through testing and maintenance.

Present findings and progress in regular updates.

Contribute to the overall activities of the team as required.

Manage and prioritise your time effectively to meet project deliverables.


Knowledge and Experience

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a focus on software development or related. (essential)

Experience in data science / data engineering (essential)

Familiarity with open-source frameworks and Python. (preferred)

Experience or strong interest in cloud services. (preferred)

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. (essential)


Skills and Abilities

Strong problem-solving skills and an engineering mindset.

Ability to work both collaboratively and on your own.

Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced start-up atmosphere.

The project's duration is flexible, ranging from three months to six months, depending on your availability. Key Responsibilities:

As a Research Assistant at SideTeams, you will play a pivotal role in:

  • Predictive Collaboration: Working closely with Dr. Luis Miralles, you will help develop and implement machine learning models to accurately forecast user collaboration patterns, innovation opportunities, and engagement trends within the SideTeams platform.
  • Autonomous Matchmaking: Collaborating with the team to create intelligent algorithms that autonomously match organizations with the most relevant Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), fostering innovation and problem-solving.
  • Enhanced Team Efficiency: Assisting in leveraging AI/ML to automate the organization and storage of key information from team discussions, providing summaries, reminders, and recommended actions to team members.
  • Continuous Learning: Supporting the development of a system that acts as an intelligent team member, retaining knowledge, and supporting teams even as team members change.

Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates who possess:

  • Strong expertise in machine learning, predictive analytics, and data modeling.
  • Proficiency in AI/ML software and models relevant to the application.
  • Experience in enhancing user recommendations through analysis of user data and interactions.
  • An understanding of data security and encryption, especially in handling sensitive or proprietary data.
  • Experience in working with Python.
  • Independent and motivated goal-oriented person.

Compensation:

This Research Assistant position offers a competitive salary of approximately €29,750 per year for full-time employment. If you choose to work part-time (around 20 hours per week), the project duration will extend to approximately six months, and you will be compensated at half of the full-time salary rate.
